Capturing Memories

My obsession with recording memories or the family album needs no introduction, it's the founding reason for this here blog, and even if it's little interest to many people I'm hoping in years to come we can find the story of our family preserved here on these pages.

But there is a lot to be said about a true family album (10,000 words of my dissertation to be precise!) and having these memories selected and preserved in hard copy is something that is really important. So far I've managed to make a few books of Theo's first years, but for however many photos I take we have a severe lack of prints to hang on the wall or stick into an album.

So together with a great competition being held by Photoworld, I thought I would take the time to share a few of our favourite memories captured.

Family: There are so many photographs that make my heart swell for the two people that make up our little family, and this has to be one of them. A blustery walk, hand in hand, exploring somewhere new. When he's older I'll look back at photographs and try and remember the feeling of his tiny hand encased in ours, being led and shown.

Friendship: I have savoured the months of watching Theo's capacity for friendship grow, and the special relationships he has with the people in his life. For however many problems we may have had with not so great behaviour towards other children, its the little moments of kindness that outweigh it all. His eagerness to make friends astounds me, always greeting and hugging the people he knows with great affection, his ability to comfort others and his love of all creatures furry and soft makes me proud.

Travel: Those of you who know me well will understand the deep rooted joy that travelling and discovering a new place brings me. It's a need I have, and given long periods of time without a journey or new sights I feel withdrawn and less like myself. Adventure runs through my veins, and climbing a tall hill to see a the whole view will never stop tempting me.

Celebration: The memories made and captured on our wedding day (nearly a year ago!) are ones that will never leave. Being able to look back and recall all the people we love dearly who came to celebrate with us is something that I hold so dear!
