last weekend

Last weekend before Theo's birthday on Sunday, we traveled over to my sister's little cottage to spend a few days with her. She had very kindly booked us tickets to go and see a theatre performance, by Oily Cart, a company who write and perform theatre for early years and children with special needs. I wasn't sure how Theo would be and if he'd be able to sit and enjoy the whole performance, as it's aimed towards under 5s, but I couldn't have been more wrong! He was compelltey engaged with the whole performance. There was so much to do and look at and part take in, and each section lasted the perfect amount of time. There was so much involved, such as sensory, music, moving around, watching, and playing...and even though there were children who were older there too, Theo was as engaged as they were. I don't want to go into too much detail because I seriously urge you to go and check it out yourselves if they come to a town near you! The show we saw was called 'In a pickle'. go go go!

Later after the show, which was at the University of Kent, we hung around in a student bar for a little while reminiscing of the way life used to be and how a tiny bit of us wished we could go back to being a care-free student, with no responsibilities in the world! Oh how easy that life was!

We drove back to my sisters cottage in a small hamlet, built a fire, ate dinner and I fell asleep on the sofa watching Bednobs and Broomsticks! It had been a long day and drive over, but such a good one!

The next day we woke up to beautiful sunshine, which was so welcome after a week of milky snowy skies. We had a lazy morning before heading into Canterbury for a little stroll around and some lunch in the Veg box Cafe

We returned home and decided to go for a walk to the pub which is about a mile away through the woods. It all sounded like a good idea, a mile is easy to walk....but not with a toddler. We made it to the apple orchards and that was about it, we didn't have a carrier and there was no way that I could have carried Theo for a mile, and Rob didn't have very sensible shoes on for trudging through mud. But we enjoyed the orchard in the evening sun before giving up and driving to the pub instead! You may remember some photos I took of a walk we went on the last time I visited my sister, back in June. How different it looks in the winter, and how much Theo has changed...

After a few drinks of warming ale (don't worry I only had a half!) we headed back home and prepared for the long drive home. It was a short, but very enjoyable trip away! We're still recovering a little bit from last weekend, we packed quite a lot in, but most importantly Theo had a lovely time seeing all of his family!
